Challenging seasons are not meant to break us but to mold us into something greater. Think about your favorite stories; they all have a central character who faces obstacles, overcomes them, and emerges as a hero. In your overwhelming season, you might be the obstacle that transforms you into a hero in your own life’s story.
For instance, my family and I are currently going through an overwhelming season as we expect our second child. Life looks vastly different from when we welcomed our first child five years ago. I’ve transitioned from a 9-5 corporate job to being an entrepreneur. This shift has brought its own set of challenges, such as wondering whether my business can support me during significant life events.
As a creative entrepreneur, I’ve come to realize the immense energy and mental strength required for creative work. In these times of feeling overwhelmed, everything seems more challenging. Even minor tasks that were once manageable can feel daunting. Creativity may not flow as effortlessly as it used to, and if you haven’t developed the discipline to access your creativity even in challenging times, you may find yourself struggling.
This highlights the importance of nurturing your creative life consistently, regardless of external circumstances.
Over the past four years, I dedicated myself to building Wonder Creative, which is so incredibly important to me. However, earlier this year, I began yearning for more than just a thriving business; I longed for a thriving home and family. This shift in perspective made me question whether my life was structured to achieve that balance.
Our life priorities can shift dramatically during times of extreme change. In my case, my longing for a family highlighted what truly mattered to me. I realized that if my business couldn’t support these essential aspects of my life, it wouldn’t be sustainable or healthy. This emphasizes the significance of creating a strong brand foundation that aligns with your personal values, ensuring that you don’t lose your way when life takes unexpected turns.
Now, as I navigate pregnancy and the next phase of my business, I’ve had to adjust my energy allocation. Wonder Creative still exists, but it doesn’t receive as much of my attention at the moment. The world continues to turn, regardless of my capacity, and that’s when overwhelm can set in.
So, what can we do when life becomes overwhelmingly hectic? Here are some strategies that have helped me navigate these challenging times:
1. Stay Resilient:
Remember that overwhelming seasons won’t last forever. Hold onto the victories you’ve achieved in the past; they are a testament to your character and strength. Remind yourself of your ability to overcome challenges.
2. Seek Divine Support:
In times of where life feels like a lot, turning to faith can provide immense strength. I’ve found solace in bringing my overwhelm to the Lord, asking for His love, peace, and joy to fill my soul. This connection has been a source of tremendous resilience.
3. Prioritize Wisely:
Identify your top priorities and focus your energy on them. Create boundaries to protect your mental and emotional well-being. Recognize that it’s okay to say no to additional obligations during overwhelming seasons.
4. Seek Support:
It’s crucial to be intentional about asking for help. You don’t have to be everything to everyone. Have open conversations with loved ones about your current limitations and restructure your commitments accordingly.
5. Trust in Divine Guidance:
Understand that you don’t have to navigate overwhelming seasons on your own. The Lord is guiding you, showing you what to prioritize and providing you with the strength you need. Trust in His care and respond to the blessings He offers.
Overwhelming seasons may shake us, but they cannot break us. Remember that change is a part of life, and you are never alone in your journey. There is hope, love, and peace surrounding you. By embracing challenges as opportunities for growth, reevaluating your priorities, and seeking support and faith, you can thrive through even the most overwhelming of seasons. Keep moving forward, for brighter days are on the horizon.
